I'm so happy- The ICH cleared up in my 55 gallon community/sorority tank!

I wanted to see if the aquarium salt and heat would do the trick..
AND IT DID!
The ICH is virtually gone, and I didn't lose one fish.

Miraculous since almost all of my fish in the 55 gallon, I have 42 fish in there, were infected by the ICH.

I do recommend using the salt and heat method for a natural way of getting of ICH!

thats great news.
but just so other folks are aware, some fish species dont tolerate salt so this method is not always advisable. SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!
cheers

lorachick is right.. I tested to see which fish would be able to tolerate the obvious salinity change... Slowly adding 15% of my NaCl mixture to the tank. Be sure to dissolve the aquarium salt prior to adding it to the tank.

All of them are completely cured of ICH- I will continue to do 25% water changes every other day for a couple weeks just to make sure it's completely gone.

salt and heat i would always advise to use first in ICH cases. the cheapest and best option IMO. but readers of this post beware. cories, tetras, plecs, loaches (all those "scale-less fish") do not tolerate salt. then other medications should be used.
glad its all sorted for you. keep up the water changes and hopefully the ICH is gone :good:
cheers

UPDATE: I woke up this morning to a handful of clear eggs on the breeding slate in my 55 gallon! They were from my angels. Who knew? I thought they were both males but they surprised me. Haha

AND I found a gorgeous turquoise female double tail at my local wal-mart for $4! : D-hopefully i'll add her to the sorority, or if not I can find a nice male to breed her with.

COOL! ive been on the LOOKOUT for a Double tail!
\best of luck with her!

Not true.

Having scales or not has nothing to do with tolerating salt, it's just a silly common myth :good:.

What matters is the natural environment the fish is from.

Bettas are a soft water fish that really shouldn't be kept with salt in the tank, it's bad for them.

Obviously better than whitespot though, so it's a suitable treatment (but not a good idea as a general additive).

Just keep an eye out for it coming back...I've never found the salt method 100% reliable, and just use Waterlife's Protozin on the fish at work now.

I've been keeping up with my water changes. And I'm thinking about getting a UV sterilizer?

What do you think?
