Hello,
I have a freshwater community tank with 3 zebra danio and 4 platy. Five days ago I noticed an Ich outbreak and began a salt/heat treatment. It was going very well and three days ago one of my platy females gave birth. My tank was then comprised of 7 platy :). The problem is that two days we lost power due to a snow storm and I was manually heating and aerating the tank. Thankfully all of the fish (including the fry) survived but now that the power is back the Ich seem to back in full force. I do have a bottle of Coppersafe from Mardel and am wondering if I should use it. I am afraid of harming the fry but don't want to put my tank through the stress of having a prolonged Ich outbreak on top of the salt/heat treatment and two days of low aeration and heat. Any help would really be appreciated, Thanks!

As cruel as it sounds, go ahead and treat it, even if it may hurt the babies. The good thing abuot platys is you will have a constant supply of babies. You will have to replace your adults if you don't treat them.

I would do the temp and salt method again. How long did you do it for the first time? Did you stop when all of the fish seemed clear of ich or did you continue to treat for a week afterward?

I was a few days into the salt/heat treatment when we lost power (my plan had been to continue it for a full week after the ich were visibly gone). It was everything I could do to keep the tank tolerably warm. I think I've decided to just continue the salt/heat for another 7-10 days with daily water changes. I am actually very surprised that even with the ich and a few days with unsteady water temp and manual aeration all of the fish are doing very well. Here's to hoping :)
