Check out page 6 & 7. Some pics of our last swap.
Joe Lover in Minnesota is the editor of our newsletter "Underwater". He does do a great job, thanks.
Most of the events are swap meets, rather then auctions. Swaps have vendors/breeders who buy one table and set up bags of fish for sale on the tables. With swaps you can talk face to face with the sellers, instead of like auctions where you just see the bag(s) of fish and just a seller name. Swaps you can discuss the fish you are considering buying to make sure they are compatible with what you are looking for or have setup already.
After the swap there is generally one or two speakers who give presentations on a fish subject, that varies depending on the speaker.
There are also fish shows, where members bring in their own 10 gallon & sponge filter and are responsible for setup/tear down. The IAA's first fish show was at the last August meeting. This meeting in November will be the 2nd. There are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons and winners fish are pictured in the next newsletter.
The meeting itself is after all this has been done, and to discuss club business and share ideas. The events are pretty much a time for fellow hobbyists in the area to hang out, buy/sell/trade fish, and have a good time. Most events are people from Iowa, but we have had visitors from Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, and Wisconsin.. ect. All are welcome. There is a small entry fee, I think its $3 a person or $5 for a family. If you plan to sell fish at a swap table its $10 for the table.
