What sort of shrimp are you interested in? Shrimp generally fall into 3 types; fan shrimp, algae eating shrimp and long arm/predatory shrimp. There are also lobsters/crayfish too but they are generally predatory and grow large.
This is a good site for finding more on shrimp types :) ;

http://www.petshrimp.com/shrimpspecies.html

Most shrimp only need a minimum of a 5gal-10gal tank, but of course it depends on the species/type.

well it depends on what the lps have in
i dont think they get those on pet shrimp
i have a ghost shrimp and a red cherry shrimp now so id move them in and get some more if possible
i also had a wood shimp
and another lps had japonica shrimp in so id get them too.
any type really whatever they had

I have ghost shrimp in with a bamboo right now and I know they ignore each other.

Fan filters need an established tank with lots of microrganisms in order to feed, and I would think it would be a shrimp to not overstock with or they'd starve. (They're also very sensitive to Nitrates, from what I've read.)

Ghost shrimp are hysterical to watch, and they do a lot better in larger groups - 12+. They'll go around the tank like a herd of sheep and eat and clean. I really enjoy them.

I haven't been able to find any other speices in the lfs or chain stores. And make sure to shop around - one store wanted 13 dollars for a bamboo shrimp, and I found it down the street for 6 dollars.

Can anyone help... I saw some shrimps yeaterday at my lfs and remembered seeing this post but can't see them in the link to do any research, have also forgotton their names :X. But... I think it started with an 'H' and was definitely Japanese sounding (well to me at least!), any shrimp experts able to help...?

TIA :look:

Just wanted to let you know that there is a GREAT article on keeping shrimp in last month's issue (August 2006) of Tropical Fish Hobbyist. (I hope that is ok to promote this magazine in this forum. If not, I am really sorry) It is a great article though and promted me to go out and get some ghost shrimp, just to get an idea if a shrimp tank was something I would like to have someday. So far, these shrimp I just bought (12 of them by the way) are way cool, though they are really hard to find sometimes, but I guess that is why they are called ghost shrimp.

yes i got 3 of theseall died within 6 months
if there a adult they dont live to long
the time i had him though was well worth it cool little shrimp
