it all depends on the type of turtle you are looking to put in there. some need water, some are completely land turtles. there are also differing sizes. try posting again when you have a particular kind in mind, then maybe more people can help you! good luck!

Turtles need a tank bigger than the 20g if your thinking of those red neck striped ones(the ones you mostly find in stores) . My b/f had 2 in a 30g and that was not enough room. He had to eventually let them go into a pond(i know not the best option but it was a friends pond and there wa sno other option). He fed them live minnows from tackle shops and turtle pellets. They got to a decent size, one of their shells was a good 7 inches.
Please dont tell me you were thinking of adding them to your fish tank? All those fish would be eaten within 10mins tops(yes even if they're baby turtles).

Sorry, but my experience says that that's not correct at all. I have two RES (Red Eared Sliders) in a large tank, with convict cichlids, and have successfully kept them with other fish as well, and have never had them eat any. BUT, 5 gallons is MUCH MUCH too small for a turtle, regardless.
