I will be buying some plants from my lfs and I have noticed that they come in tiny little pots. Now, my question is do I plant them into the sand with the pots or do I take them out of the pots first and then plant them? -_-

Thanks in advance!!!

Take them out of the pots and plant them.

What lights do you have on your tank?

Do you know what you are going to buy?

From Arizona Aquatic Gardens:
One common misunderstanding about potted plants is that people think these plants need to stay in their pots.... Really, the potted plants are grown this way for two main reasons: They are ideally used in the pet industry to simplify inventory and to protect the plant from cichlids or other fish who like to dig up plants.

When your potted plant arrives, we recommend taking the plant out of the pot and removing as much of the wool substrate from the roots before placing in your aquarium. So you now ask: "Why even bother buying potted as opposed to loose forms of the same plant for a cheaper price?" Well...these plants here not only ship better, but they also have an established root system and therefore your chances of growing this plant successfully will be greater.

I would add that you might consider a potassium permanganate soak, 10 minutes at 10mg/l will generally eliminate any snails or other bugs from the plants. A quick rinse and you're ready to plant.

I have plants in little terracota pots, and i left them in, and put them in my tank like that !! I also have plants, that just came with a metal weight...

Entirely up to u. I mostly unplot all the large plant as the plot will limited their grow. But for the small plants I like to keep them in a plot so if I want to remove them their rot wouldn't get damage as easily.

yes or no either way mate

my first planted tank i kept themin the pots and they were fine.now i remove them and add a small bit of lead to keep them down

either way is fine

there is a member of this forum who plants are in see through post and the tank looks awseome
