I was at my local fish shop yesterday, ordering something VERY COOL, when a new employee, let's call him CJ, came to get some advice from the more experienced employee that was helping me. It was something to do with stocking, he had customers who were intersted in getting a new set-up and wanted advice on what to get. Anyway...the more experienced employee, let's call him Brad, suggested some kind of tetra other than neons or maybe platys or mollies. He purposely sterred them toward hearty, easier fish. Then he said "Don't forget, if they get that 10 gallon set-up, they can only get 2 fish today, no more."

That is one of the reasons that this is my favorite pet store. These people actually care for the animals they keep. I knew that from talking with the owner. But it was so cool to see it in action with an employee rather than the owner, making sure that these people didn't overstock before cycling...and when the owner wasn't there looking over his shoulder. I was very impressed.

This isn't much of a commercial, since very few of you are likely to shop for fish in Oxford MS, but we hear so much about the bad shops, I thought I would share a good one.

My LFS is the same way. There are a few others who aren't as bad as the constant bashing you hear about in here (the way some put it, no LFS is good) but my primary LFS is good.

2 fish on the day of getting the tank? dont you really have to wait a week before adding fish?

what would waiting a week accomplish?

As long as the people dechlorinate and use the proper temp of water theres no need to wait.

Now personally I'd have prefered to hear they were doing a fishless cycle but theres no need to wait if they're going to use fish to cycle a tank.

Most books I read it's a week too- my lfs recommended the wait because you can check filter, heater etc... and make sure your plants are doing ok! My routine was set up with base, hard decor and dechlorinated water and turn on filtration and heater, the next day I planted plants and cycling began.

Still it's a heck of a step in the right direction- I'd still love to know who cheerfully sold someone an RTBS to go in a 13 g with a singular clown loach and a bunch of tiny fish..!

we have 1 good LFS in teh are and every other one is terrible
