i want to keep cichlids..

I could only think of the Apistogramma species if you want cichlids, but they are not cheap....the cheapest ones would be the german blue rams, I have a pair of apisto nijjseni and it cost me around $40 canadian.....

yes, i asked about pricing at the LFS and german blue rams would only be 5 bux a piece*USD

Go for the rams, they are better for beginners than the apistos.
