Hey all, I was hoping to get some ideas from you all. I have never really bred any species of fish before (besides guppies) and would really like to try it out. I now have an empty, planted 10 gallon where I had been trying (unsucessfully) to breed Golden Wonder Killi, they are out of the picture now.

I think I want to try something easier to breed, I would LOVE to hear your input on a fun/easy species that I could try breeding in my 10 gallon... Thanks!

Try some peppered corys, just get a bunch (6-7) and when you do water changes, do them so they are slightly cool.

If it's egglayers you're after, cherry barbs are supposed to be fairly easy. A trio (1 male,2 females) should be about right, condition them on livefoods (or frozen).

Try getting 3 platies (1m/2f) put them in your tank and you will have babies in a month!!! They are also some in many different colours for you to enjoy!!

7 cories are too many for a 10g, they get too large. I would try shrimp or snails, or just pick your favorite (small) fish and breed that.

Sorry but I wouldn't recommend breeding Bettas unless you are well prepared. Even though they are not difficult to breed, they take up a lot of time, effort, space and money.

First thing to consider when breeding anything; where are the offspring going to go? Have a shop or two that will take the fish you are breeding, or have plenty of extra tank space if you plan on keeping them all.

Second, do you have the time, space, and funds to get this and keep this up & running. Most aquarist think breeding is a cool thing, until they get 100 or more fry, with nobody to buy them or take them, and limited tank space.

Something you may want to look into if you have a 10 gallon is some of the more rare livebearers. From what I understand the hardest part is getting the breeding stock.

lol I'd suggest guppies, they breed like mad... but IMO a 10gallon tank won't do much breeding wise... if you want a true breeding experience, get a larger tank then take on something more challenging, like African Cichlids or something...

Danios are very easy to breed. When we first got ours.. we had 3 girls and 1 boy... within a week.. we had fry.
Danios need alot of room though so 10gals really isn't big enough for the active little buggers.

Hey!! Thanks for all the great input, I will seriously consider getting a bigger tank in the future, and maybe just start with a few livebearers or something. I do have places for the fry to go especially since livebearers tend to have a bit less offspring than the egg-layers. Thanks for all the awesome ideas everyone, you really got the wheels turning.
