After much consideration and planning (and talks from TFF) I decided to turn my 120gal into a Discus tank. Anyone who has owned or know alot about discus, post wat ever u got over here please. Any advice welcome. :good:

nice size tank for discus. They will need a mature setup so have tank running afew months first, gives you a chance to keep eye on your water parameters. ph keep stable and not too high, you might need r/o water depending on quality of your tap water, best to get 5 discus minimum to share out aggression and you could have a few more in that size tank. Powerful filter, temp 27-29.
Anything else you need to know please ask

keep a group of like 10 in there, feed them lots of frozen and live foods if possible.

R/O means Reverse Osmosis.

this is a type of purified water that puts the Ph down but it also takes out the minerals.

most fish in nature aren't really fit for Discus but Cardinals are a good choice. Discus habitat is normally nothing but a bare muddy bottom, maybe a peices of stick and from what I understand normally no rocks or plants.

Sand would be ok, if kept stired and very clean. A totally bare bottom would be best IMO. A mud bottom would constantly be disturbed by the discus looking for food and could cause problems for your filtration. Do more research on discus by searching this forum then ask specific questions.

I didn't say to do the mud bottom, I said thats it's natural habitat.

Vallis, onion plants and amazon swords would be a good mix of plants for discus imo.

Check out www.simplydiscus.com. I have been a member there since 2004 and you will not get better discus info anywhere else on the net! :)
