well you might ahve seen my other topics about what to get and my lighting(which no one has helped me on oh well) but ive decided to get an oscar!! i had a few questions though
1. i have a 75 gallon tank with marineland 350 filter on it. sufficiant or should i get another filter for the tank?
2. can i keep more than one in the tank? i was maybe thinking 2 albinos
3.could i put gravel in the tank? i read that they will move the gravel around and maybe crack bottom. the bottom is 1/2 glass should i be worried? i also read that gravel can eb a hygene problem and make the oscar prone to diseases like hole in the head?
4. and should i get a shatter resistant heater? just in case the oscar gets borred? but i will try not to get him/her bored.
thanks

You could have 2 albino oscars in a 75 TEMPORARILY, but they'd get more and more aggressive/territorial as they grow older... so you'd end up with one in the end, anyhow. And that's a good case scenario. To me, it seems like they'd probably be both stunted and fall ill if that was their longterm home.
I'd put gravel in there - for one, it's more aesthetically pleasing, and for another... my fish love moving gravel, it's entertaining and interesting to see them doing it. And with the amount of wastes an oscar can produce, if the tank were just bare... it would just stir up its own muck every time it moved. Not that great sounding to me. If you're really concerned about it breaking though, perhaps you can use sand? Also another lovely substrate, just make sure it doesn't get too thick/develop anaerobic pockets.

If you're really worried about the heater and filter... look into Eheim canisters, some of them have heaters in there. No heater to shatter for the fishie!

Have fun with your oscar. :good:

definately 1 O and 2 350 filters. and, if you must have gravel, do just enough to be asthetically pleasing, it will trap less debri that way. Good luck with your O!!

Thanks for the comments. LOL sorry about putting it in the african section i was doing alot or reading before bed and i found out they are actually south american! and yes sounds good on the one oscar in the tank! One question though if i had 2 in there and grow them up with each other since they were babies would they still fight when they get older?
thanks

The gravel really won't do anything to the fishes health as long as it's cleaned atleast every week.

And to answer the question of yours above. You really can't beat natural instinct.

If you get a pair (a male and female fish) that would be ok for a 75 gal. For a heater, I use 2 visi-therm stealths. They have gotten great ratings, and are coated with a thermal plastic and therefore are shatter proof. :)

wrong. A pair isn't just a male and a female - they might still kill each other, in fact pairs can form between two same gender oscars and you can tell they're a pair when they are nearly fully grown and both alive.

well i ahve a question then how do the oscars turn from a male and female to male and male or female and female?

LOL so then they realize later in life that "OMG your a boy" then the other one says" Your a boy too OMG" and start fighting because one tried to pull a fast one at night?
