I have a 30 gallon tank that I have been unsure what to do with. I decided to live plant it. Once I get he hang of it I seriously would like an Angel in there. Current stocking is 2 Gourmais, 8 Danios, 5 Phantom Tetras, and 3 Corys. What fish would I need to remove to make it suitable for the Angel ?

If it were my tank, I would remove the gouramis, danios, and phantom tetras.
Just to make sure the angel had enough space and no problems would arise.

You might just want to watch the Danio, they may want to nip the Angels, especially if you have any long finned varieties. It would be a maximum of 3 Angels. Other then that, it is fine :good:

Wow, I didn't even know 3 angels could fit into a 30 gallon. :X

I was thinking more along the lines of keeping the Gourmais and just 1 Angel. I know Angels are aggressive , so not sure if the Angel would bother the Gouramis. Then maybe put the Danios in my big tank. Not sure if my Sev would try to eat them though

What type of Gouramis?/ how big are they? Angel may get chased by them if they've been in a while...

Hope it works out.

The Gouramis are new. I can't remember the name. They aren't what I typically see in the stores. Have been trying to look them up. They are golden on top and white on bottom. One black spot by their tails and a dark strak running from the eye to half way down their body. They are really beautiful. They are still quite small and both appear to be females.

Sound like gold gourami's. Keep a very close eye, I introduced an angel to a tank with 2 young female pearl gourami's, 2 days later the angel was completely bald if you know what I mean. To be fair one of the pearls was particularly aggressive and was giving the other one a hard time too.

No...they are not gold. I have never seen these in a store before. The name was uncommon as why I can't remember. If nobody knows, I can go back to store and ask again. Maybe I should post in the Gourami section. Below are some bad pics. They are mostly white/silver with a peachy/yellowish color up top. Notice the black streak. They have the white speckles on their fins. I recall the LFS said they will get more spots and are not aggressive. I don't always believe what they say though. My Opaline is quite the spitfire which is why he is now housed with the Severum and can't have any friends.

They are pearl gouramis, and should be ok with similar sized angels, They are not as aggressive as the three-spots and so as long as your angels aren't particular aggressive you should be ok,
You will ideally need to remove the danios from the 30G if you are intent on keeping angels, their quick movements and fin nipping nature are likely to stress out the angels in small tanks, Your phantom tetras are also known to be fin nippers so you will also need to watch them.

I've seen similar ones advertised as 'Pearl Gouramies' but not sure if yours are these.

Agree with others that a single Angel may be at risk with them.

(I Had a Gold 'Three-Spot' Gourami which harrassed everything of a slightly large size and it lived for over 10 years with only small Tetras (etc..) as its tankmates!- Bullied fellow Gouramies constantly for first week, till removed)

Some other types are peaceful though!

Yes....I believe they are baby Pearls. I think I will plant the tank...should have the plants Wed. or Thurs.

Set up 10 gal. for emergency sake, plus I have the 75 gal. tank too.

Add Angel this weekend and see how it goes.

Temporarily....honestly...the Danios have been with several fish and never a problem and the Tetras are very shy. I still think I may be overstocked even if it does work out.

I have always wanted an Angel/Discus tank  . I see that possible in the future if I can figure out where to put it :shifty:

Yip, def pearls, both look female and you have a dominant one. As I said I introduced a Angel in similiar circumstances and the dominant pearl nipped it's fins completely off, don't know if it'll recover. Be very careful and remove the gourami at the first sign of aggression cos when the lights go out the new angel won't stand a chance.
