Hello, I have recently joined the fish hobby, I am really addicted. Its very weird actually, I enjoy it so much and I just started....I hope its not a phase

Anyway, My first tank is the 29 gallon I just started. Its a freshwater tank with community fish. I now want to get a larger tank and larger fish. I was thinking either S.A fish like chiclids or maybe something cool like puffers. I am not ready for salt water yet, or even know if I would want that. I like bala sharks, puffers, tiger barbs, rainbow sharks, and a few others. I also want my new aquarium to be planted, and to have sand in it if i can  I am new to this hobby, so I am still learning A LOT! I want the tank to be between 55 gallons and 80 gallons. I want it to be longer, rather than wider. I also want a stand with it and possibly a package deal, but I doubt I will find one. I would also like it to have the dual lights, one for plants, one for fish, and maybe something that will allow for a night light which make the fish look pretty. I am willing to spend the money, plus Christmas is right around the corner. So let me know of any ideas? Also, is the basement an ok place to keep a fish tank? (mine gets a little cold in the winter) I really want a nice tank, something that I can be proud of, so please dont suggest a garbage tank.....thanks!

as long as the basement is used regualy then i see no problem with the tank being in it, although as it gets cold, in the winter i recomend adding a second heater on the opposite side of the tank to make sure the water stays nice and warm.
A good package deal that i just got (i did upgrade afew things though), is an Aqua One Regency 80, it is 180l and measured 80cm (L) * 40cm (D) * 70 (h) and thats just the tank, with the cabnet it is 80cm (L) * 40cm (W) * 146ishcm (H).
it comes with duel lights and a external canister filter (i upgraded mine to an Aqua One Aquis 2250UV-C because its better and it has a UV light built in).

it comes in three sizes: Regency 80 (180l) (the one i have) costs about £480 for package, Regency 100 (220l)costs about £580for package, and Regency 120 (300l) which costs about £800 for the package, all the tanks are the same dimentions except for the lenght which increases by 20cm each modle so the 80 is 80cm, the 100 is 100cm and the 120 is 120cm.

its a good tank and my moddle with every thing included: bogwood, plants 3* Ecco compleat gravel, airpump, CO2, Different filter cost me about £900, but i would say it is well worth it.

hope you find the right tank for you, Shang hi :good:

Hey Dave! I'd say go for something not too large, but manageable.
If you fancy a longer tank, how about starting off with some Dwarf Puffers? They'll love a longer narrow tank and you can use sand as the substrate and plant it up nice and densely :D

i got a nice package deal at one of my LFS. Its a aqua one 1500b. 83gal, 5ft long, 2ft high, 1ft wide bow fronted and came with 2 40w white lights, 2 40w red lights a stand, 2 aqua one cf1000 filters and 2 heaters for £545. Very good deal i think!!

Very nice tank

There are a lot of really nice package deals out there. I quite like the jewel tanks but dont like their built in filtration. The fluval tanks look pretty good as well.

I would say if you have just got into it stick with the tank you have at the moment and give it a couple of months. If your still really into at that point then have a look at getting another tank. That way you wont spend a load of cash on something you get fed up with later (oh how many times have a bought something only to have it sit in a cupboard for 5 years and never be used :) ).

Also check out your local classified ad's and aquatic classified ad's as you can often pick up really cheap deals. Just double check everything is as expected and that you see it filled with water before buying.

This hobby is very addictive and it is quite is to start looking around your house thinking (hmmm we dont really need a sofa there, we could fit a massive tank in that spot and sitting on the floor is sure to be the next big thing ;)).

i agree with the whole waiting thing. it also gives you the time to do research so you can figure out exactly what interests you and gives you the best chance of it succeeding the first time around. :)

however i bought a 55 gallon tank that comes with 2 hoods and lights, a pretty decent heater, and a filter for $165. the filter is something that you'll want to replace eventually but it's enough to get you started. :good:
