I Think My Platy Has Fin Rot !

the other night, i was concerend that my platy had been attacked.
his left fin is torn...
but the tear has gone white and soggy

(like when you rip wet paper)

like i say, i thought he was attacked...
until i thought
" *&*^£^!!!!! it might be fin rot! "

what does fin rot look like...
and how can i save him
( and can it spread!?!? )

ive worked myself into such a panic

Sorry to hear your platy has fin rot! There are thousands of pictures online, if you type in platy finrot on google it will show up a load of pictures to compare, there are treatments out there to cure the fin rot, Iv also been told that it can heal naturaly if the water if perfect but I think that runs the risk of the fish not getting any better just worse. Hope your fishie gets better soon

Well like orli said it can heal naturally. I have a cory which got fin rot and I just did a water change a few days later then within a week the fin rot was starting to go. But saying this the fin rot wasn't major as only about 1/3 (more like 1/4) of the fin was actually damaged. Normally dirty water triggers it, so just do a water test and then change the water. However, if the fin rot is quite bad e.g. the whole fin is missing or it is in several places then I would personally use some sort of medicine which you should be able to buy from your lfs. Fin rot can be quite bad if you leave it, but then again it will heal itself over time so long as the water is perfect. Hope that helps.
