I think my Platy gave birth

Yep, I think my prego female Platy gave birth sometime this evening, a fter I changed the water in the tank. I just looked at them a bit ago and she looks not-as-chubby and I also don't see much of a gravid spot on her anymore. I think I saw one fry swimming around and as I was going for my net, I saw Mommy turn around and "gulp!". I *think* she's about done giving birth, if not done already. She's staying off by herself and hiding. I've poked around in the gravel a little to see if I could find some fry, but no such luck

<sigh> I was SOOOO looking forward to having more fry very soon. Maybe she'll have a few more tonight...???

I *think* she's about done giving birth, if not done already.

I was wrong. She's still giving birth. I have yet to see an entire fry outside of her though. I have seen tails coming out though. I want more fry (alive)!

I FOUND A FRY!!!!! I was moving a plant and a little fry came out! I managed to net it before Mommy ate it, too! Now I have him in with my other fry. I hope he's okay. I hope I didn't hurt him

you are going to find that keeping those fry is waaaay more hassle than they're worth. I kept my platy's fry for about 3 months, they grew to about a quarter-inch, maybe half an inch, then I got tired of them and threw them in with my cichlids. It was pretty entertaining to watch

my platy gave birth not too long ago and i haven't seen any around much i saw one but I've never seen them eat the babies. one time a fry swam right next to the papa and he did nothing he just swam away i was like what!
