Has anyone noticed this before? I had my heart set on getting a crowntail at first, but when I saw Darby, I just fell in love. They charged me $9 for a "half moon" betta, but after doing a bit more research, I think he might be a super delta instead. Is there a surefire way to find out just what kind of Betta he is?
I've got loads of pictures, but no way to connect them to my computer atm. :X

Okay, if I'm understanding right, then I'm pretty sure he's a SD then.
Erk. My cat has finally discovered he has a new "brother".

 my cat used to hiss at my first betta  but he never got the courage to even go near the bowl

back to the topic- halfmoons will have a sorta half a circle shaped tail when they are flaring. This is a delta:

and this is a halfmoon flaring:

Lol, silly cats! Max is absolutely enamored with Darby. Not scared at all, in fact I have to keep warning him not to "touch" the glass lol. Luckily Darby is full of vim and vinegar so he just stares right back!

Thank you for the pics, they're great examples. I haven't seen Darby do a full display in a couple of days, so I'm still not sure what he is. He has that nice rounded shape to his anal fin, but while he's just swimming around, his tail looks more like a Delta. If I remember right, his caudal fin goes straight up and down when he's flaring. Now that he knows I'm sitting here though, he's only interested in me and not his reflection, even if I put my finger to the side of the tank.

Wooo-OW! I thought I'd seen him flare before, but nothing like that! :hyper:
Goodness. I guess he IS a half moon. He can really get big when he's flaring. I tried to get a picture of him but he calms down very fast- which I suppose is a good thing.

sounds like another pacific  . wiggle the mirror around a bit while trying to take a picture - thats what i have to do to get a good flaring pic of shadow. cant wait to see pics.

There! I finally got one despite Darby darting back and forth like a maniac. I can't wait until I can share all my pics! Just need to figure out how to get them onto my computer now that I've found the connector cable.
This sort of thing isn't bad for him is it? I felt a little guilty making him get all macho. He keeps looking at me like "Again mom?" *sigh* "Okay."

On a side note though, his red seems to be coming out a lot more now that he has a "friend".

Can't wait to share them! Now if only I could drag myself away from the forums, maybe I'd make some progress finding my Photoshop CD.

Okay, okay lol! Last post, I swear. Then I'm going to dig that CD up come hell or high water.
:p

Don't worry, it's not bad, they can S..T..R..E..T..C..H their fins out, I don't think they should do it for too long though.
