I'm new here so I'll introduce myself real quick. My name is Aleshia and I have owned bettas for about 6 yrs. Currently I have Randal (my male) and Dori (my female). They share a 10 gallon tank that is seperated by a piece of acrylic glass. They both have their own 10i filter :).

Now for my problem lol. I used to keep them seperate (in different tanks). When the new tank was stabilized and I put them in there..Dori balloned up within a week. I have withheld food from her for a couple days to see if it was just constipation. I'm positive it's her reaction to Randal, along with randal creating the biggest more beautiful nests I have seen. I originally had no intention to breed. But I have become concerned with her, as she seems to look bigger everyday. She is acting normal and eating normally (she is a pig!). Is there a way for me to help her release these eggs so she doesn't get sick?? Please remember, whatever I put in her tank will be shared with Randal as well. Thanks in advance!! ~Aleshia

I'm pretty sure dropsy isn't contagious. Sometimes it is, but usually it isn't. My guppy got it in the community tank and died but none of my other fish got it.

Do you want for her to have babies? Or an abortion?
Are you sure it isnt dropsy either? But the male would have gotten it too....? -_-

I think the difference between dropsy and being "eggy" is hard to confuse. The female probably just has a bloated belly that looks like she was either fed too much or filled with eggs! :hyper:

Dropsy may or may not be contagious, it depends on the cause* and the health of the fish involved.
*Bacterial, Viral, Osmoregulatory, Nutritional.
