assuming i win the tank im bidding on , which is 112L 800x400x350 (mm) il be using an eheim internal filter rated for tanks up to 200L i cant really see that giving anywhere near enough circulation. so im thinking il need a circulation pump. obviously i want enough flow but at the same time dont want the fish being blasted about by the current. what do you think about this 1?

that looks good to me Mark...i don't want to plant seeds in you head but, have you thought about maybe a couple of cheap externals?

or just adding a powerhead?

i'll shut up now, just go for the powerhead mate lol

The cheap externals would be pointless, 150lph x 2 isnt gonna throw out anything in the way of needed flow... he would still need a powerhead or pump he has linked to so literally doubling the cost for no reason whatsoever.

He may aswell go for there full size external...HERE!!! or HERE!!!... and save himself not only on money on separate purchases but running cost at the same time.

Mark, if you was to use the 1400lph external ive linked to then you wouldn't need any other circulation at all, that would suffice what you need without going OTT on buying loads of individual stuff that isn't needed :good:.

Or the over option is to just look on ebay for a cheap re-sun or sun sun powerhead/wave maker or second hand koralia 1 or 2.

its all about keeping the initial costs down at the moment jake . im gonna go with the circulation pump . also that will fit in with my long term plan better . basicly the idea is to get the small tank , learn low tech , then master low tech . from there learn high tech , then master high tech , learning about aquascaping as i go . then ultimately in say ayear or so go for it and do a big scale high tech stunner on the 100g . which already has 2 eheim 2217s on it so pointless wasting money on another external . the powerhead can go in the big tank along with the 2 eheims , and a nice shiny fire extinguisher co2 etc.

yep think big thats what i say!!!! but learn small cos its cheaper

sorry Mark, have been on nights and have just woken up to read my pointless post's regarding the external's. Ignore it mate and get the powerhead, lol.

lol no worries ian ,

ive got a little progress . i won the tank :good: got it for £80 hes even going to deliver it for me on monday!! my wood should sell today , ive got no bids yet , but 5 watchers and it ends about midnight tonight , and 16 people watching the filter so over the next couple of weeks things should hopefully be able to start kicking on .

the reason im going for a circulation pump instaed of bigger filter is that most importantly i need to keep the initial costs down , but also the pump will give me more control over circulation as its adjustable both in direction and flow rate too . and when i finally do the big planted tank the pump will be transferable to that tank but any external filter would be redundant

I have that 1400Lph filter and although it was better than my Fluval 205 on my 125 Rio it isn't as fast or flow making as you would think. The spray bar disperses the flow massively. I still use a Koralina Nano Powerhead to increase the flow in my tank.

for the cost of a filter with an as of yet unproven track record , i could get both the circulation pump and a nice selection of plants .

Had mine for a month so far and no problems apart from the basket handles.

Considering they are pretty much clones of the Tetratec I doubt there is going to many if any problems with it.

I got my 1400 for like £40 or something silly like that.

im not going to pass judgement on a filter i know nothing about , its just simple economics , ive got a perfectly good eheim sat in my cabinet doing nothing , and the circulation pump is only a score. :good:

I completely understand your logic, however I always ended up going the other way and having a load of big stuff that was redundant when I tried to do a small tank heh. Now I have quite a stock of small internal filters that can be used as powerheads.

I used a Eheim powerball for a while as a powerhead but I wasn't a fan of the filter itself, it had a tendency to rattle something rotten and sound like it was pumping rocks through the impeller rather than water lol.

You may as well use the Eheim filter as well theres no harm in having even more flow and it isn't going to cost you anything to contribute even more so.

ive run this filter in tanks before , its silent :good: the tank im going to plant is only 112L so the ehiem will give enough filtration to keep fish happy , just not enough circulation for the plants .
