i posted a thread yesterday about my angel. i am pretty sure i will have to euthanise him. the top half of his mouth is missing and he hasn't eaten for days. i've tried to feed him powdered food, baby fish food, i even tried feeding with an eye dropper. his body is slowley disappearing.

in my 55 gal tank i have 5 barbs, 1 rtbs, 1 oto, 1 male guppie, and the angel.

before anyone says it, it is not the barbs nipping. i showed the angel to a friend of min that is a vet student home for the summer and she said it dosen't look like nipping to her. i value her opinion as she has studied small animal medicne for a few years and has done work with fish and she dosen't think he will recover from this.

i am writing for help on humane ways of euthanizing. maybe you have had to euthanize a fish, could you share the methods you used.

i heard alchol would work, part alchol part water, leave the fish in there for an hour or more then dispose of the body. does it matter what type of alchol you use? wiskey, rum, or maybe the kind of rubbing alchol you use to clean cuts or something??

any helpful advice would help! i really don't want to kill him but i don't want him to go on suffering and slowley starve to death either!!!!

Drinking alcohol is the stuff to use. Vodka is reccomended, I imagine whiskey would work.

it will be tomorrow afternoon before i can get the chance to do it but i will let you know what happens.

i would like to say i appreciate the support from most from my post yesterday and today. i know it's always hard to euthanise and for other to accept that it has to be done but please for future refrence remember those asking for help don't need critisisms they need support and understanding

I guess you are right about the alcohol, but check this out:

Code:
Place the fish into a bath containing any of the following:

    * Alcohol: 1:5 (20%) solution of any other strong grain neutral alcohol, such as vodka, and water
    * MS-222 is a veterinary-grade anesthetic for fish. Place the fish in 350 ppm MS- 222 (350 mg MS-222 per liter of water) for 10 minutes.
    * Clove oil (Eugenol)
