since my 33 gal is taking forever to cycle with 6 blk skirt tetras and i dont really wanna give up my fish what if i hooked up a 10 gallon tank, cycled it with ammonia, put my fish in there then fix my big tank up by doing a fish less cycle. would they be alright in a 10 gall. for a month or so, theyre not very big fish anyways

I think they'd be fine in the 10G tank. The only trouble is, by the time that one has cycled, the chances are your 33G will be ready anyway.

id like to think so too, but its already been 3 months so im not too sure about that, the fish will continue to live in the 33 while the 10 is cycling , i was planning on gettting a hospital tank anyways so after every thing is complete i can just use the 10 for that. all animals become family in jsut a short time so its really really hard to think about giving them up, including fish.

 hope you have more luck cycling than me

Just started going after 'stalling for the 3rd time :shout:

I will NOT give up!!

Do either of you have access to Bio-Spira? It usually runs about $10 for a pack that'll do 30-gal over here. It instantly cycles your tank, so you just add it and your fish at the same time.
That's what I did to the first 2 tanks I have (until I learned to think ahead and clone the filter media!) and it always worked great for me. Just make sure you keep it cold (not frozen) until you use it.

Is there anyone with a tank that would run your filter for a few weeks?

Some pet shops will run your filter... or give you some of their old filter material that is cycled. It can't hurt to ask.
