She just spends all her time at the top of the tank getting air. Shes not bothered about eating at all. I think she might be dying. I hate to see her like this, i hope shes not inn any pain.

I mean, she is constantly getting air from the top of the tank. The tank is very well oxygenated and the other fish are fine. I dont know what to do. I dont have a spare heater or filter to put her in another tank. What should i do?

Thanks.

Buy a spare 25 watt heater cheap on ebay, you don't have to buy a sponge filter if funds are tight, you can make a sponge filter using this method : CLICK ME There's a diagram on page 5 that makes things clearer.

The largest size plastic critter keeper available will work fine if you don't have a spare glass tank.

Also,

When was the last time you did a water change
What are your test kit readings for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate
What size tank is this fish in and what other fish are in with it

*nods* I would try to find something else to put her in. Or maybe even just put her in to a breeders net or something.
Poor girl.

How old is she?

How long have you had her?

Stupid question but have you tried her on different foods?

Too late, she died. I went out 2nite and when i went to check on her she was laying on her side at the bottom of the tank. I'd only had her 4 days! She was a big girl so im expecting she was quite old already.
Still, at least she died in a good home rather than a pet shop where she was getting picked on by a male!
I only had her 4 days but im going to miss her.

R.I.P. Fuego.

I dont think she was very well when i bought her as she spent all of her time at the top of the tank. The other 2 are fine, it was just her that was poorly.

sorry about your fish. i have had them die within a week of buying from an lfs. Trouble is we dont know what conditions they have been in, whether they were imported bred in Uk or what...but at least she was being loved, if only for a few days. :good:

you did a good job with her as i can see her little nipped fins re-growing. sadly this happens to lots of fish. you just never know what stressors they've recently been thru before you got them. we as the keepers just have give them a nice home and be nervous through that initial few weeks.
she was pretty.
