I Remeber The Experiments That The School Had Us Do To Fish

It just came up to me right now, but I remember that a few years ago at school our teacher had us all get 2 liter pop bottles and cut off the tops, and he had us put some gravel and one plant in it, then we put water straight from the tap into the 2 liter bottle and put 3 feeder guppies in and 1-3 snails, the water wasn't even dechlorinated at all! Needless to say, the guppies all died within a day, and the snails incredibly survived up to 4-5 days! Apparently the one plant (which looked like Elodea or Hornwort) was supposed to remove all the bad stuff from the bottle and the guppies were supposed to eat the plant in turn, while the snails ate the waste.

Another experiment they had us do was when the teacher bought about 10 goldfish and we were supposed to put him in a little container and then we were supposed add ice to the tank so that the temp would drop quickly and we were supposed to measure how many breaths he took each minute...Needless to say again, all the goldfish died shortly after...

If I had known about fishkeeping back then, I probably would have spoke up...And stole some stuff too!!!

I'm just saying, if they wanted to teach us, they could have got a nice 10 gallon, and taught us about pH, nitrogen cycle, that stuff.

It would have been a lot more informational also, rather than: If you freeze a goldfish to death, it breathes slower!

awww in my school thy have this tiny tank and the back of the classroom which isnt looked afta at all it must have over 50 guppies init i spoke to the lad tech and ask y are u keeping to many in the tank she said its an exspriment to see wether fish will stop reproducing even whn thy know their isnt enough room personlly i think wht she is doing is cruel but nuthing i can do abt i reali
