look into ammo-lock. My ammonia got up to 4! we added ammo-lock after a water change and the fish all survived.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't ammo lock just a dechlorinator?

sorry 4 ur loss irene, like anuther user said... check ur water paras or maybe even aquascape n restock. u can start a lil legacy 4 bubba n get a similar tank maybe, fesh keeping is the coolest hobby ever, it takes skill n patience, dont throw it away.

Ammolock isn't a long term solution to anything, though. Doing more frequent water levels to keep it consistently at safe levels is. Corrent me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't ammonia be at 0 or close to it?

Anyways - the origional poster - I'm very sorry to hear about your loss Its so upsetting to lose a well loved fish. However, I don't think you should give up all together; take good care of your remaining guys, then if you still want to get out of the hobby, wait until they pass away and sell the tanks second hand; you'll probably make some good money.

yeah ammolock is definitly a temporary fix that as far as i know doesn't prevent the bio filter from developing. It's good to have in case you add new fish after a cycle and you accidentally start a mini-cycle. Or if your like me and you didn't know what cycling was, it can save your fish. And yes ammonia should be at zero.

I added the ammo lock after a water change btw.
