Can some one give me simple steps on how to breed guppies
I have a breeding net and a the two layer breeder.

PLease help B) B) B)

if you post this in the livebearers there will probably be more people reply to your topic. but from what i know about breeding gupies is that they are very easy to breed. if you go into the fish index, then goto livebearers then goto gupie theres alot of info about them.

Put a ratio of 1 male to 2 females together in a tank. Trust me, they will breed. It is hard to NOT breed them if you have males and females together (they are the rabbits of the fish world). A well planted tank would be better then the breeder net/cage. You can let the guppies hide until they are big enough not to fit in another fish's mouth, or you can net the fry into another tank when you find them.

Basic instructions on breeding guppies:
1. Put male and female guppies in tank together.
2. Wait a few weeks. ( with reasonable care including feeding and preferably some water changes)

If at first you don't succeed get more guppies. It worked for me. I don't even know how many guppies I have now, probably still around 200. I only bought about 5. I did use a breeder box for my first couple of broods, but pretty soon I had so many I didn't even care if a few got eaten.

If you see the boys chasing girls around or dancing and waving their tails in front of them, they're probably on the way.

You'll find plenty of more helpful info if you look at the stuff pinned at the beginning of the livebearers board and stuff.

first off, you don't need the breeding trap. they are meant to hold the female just before she gives birth. but really, these things are too small and can quite often end up stressing the fish too much. your best bet, as said, is to get one male for every two females. this will ensure breeding, but also helps to keep the females from getting too stressed out. guppies breed like rabbits and need little encouragement on your part. check out the pinned article in the livebearer section for info on what to look for in a pregnant female (yes, the pics are of platies, but the same hold for guppies).

also as mentioned, have plenty of plants to give the new fry a place to hide, otherwise they may be eaten by adults. a breeding net is not a good place to put the fry. if you do catch them, its best to move them anotehr tank. one trick i used, since trying to catch them with a regular fish net didn't work so well, i use a turkey baster and just suck them up then squirt them gently into their grown out tank.
