hi im new to this forum, and 2 days ago i went to petsmart and bought myself an 8" striped peacock eel, when i looked at him he was hiding under a rock of driftwood with another eel inside, the lady took the eel out and putted it in the bag, when i came home i placed it in my 55 gallon tank which has one angelfish, one gold nugget pleco, and my 4 giant danios, ever since that day he has never buried under the gravel which was good, but he doesn't eat! i have tried to feed him Bloodworm, Tubife worms, brine shrimp, and shrimp pellets, all of them at night time. but all i see is that he swims a lot when is dark but dont see the food and ignores it, and when he sees my shadow it goes back to hiding between the plants. anybody knows whats wrong with him? the water nitrates are below 20ppm and the nitrates are 0, the pH is a bit acidic but not very acid, and he looks healthy as a horse, he has all these beautiful colors on him, but the one thing he won't do is eat! he doent look ill or anything, he likes to swim a lot when i turn off the lights

Well i have a half banded spiney eel, when i first got him he would hide just same as what your discribing, but now i have alot of plant's mostly plastic, with bogwood/slate/rocks with a blanket of duckweed across the top of tank, this helps make it very covered and stops alot of light penitrating, ever since i did this he has been out so much more, Mine will only eat dried tubiflex worm, live and dried bloodworm, and small worm like creatures it seems to relish, but it is still around 6inches and the way the mouth's shaped and from what i read, they seem to like only worm like foods.....mine touches no pellets or flakes

ps give him time as its just been upheaveled, could take a while, mine is timid and had mine six month's, before the duckweed we would very seldom see him, sometimes a week would go by without a viewing
