I Need Help! Bettas Look Sick

I have 4 female bettas, out of which 3 look sick. They look like they have some kind of peeling skin on their lips and going down their head. It is really starting to scare me I don't know what it is or what I should do. Please help, it looks almost as if they are shedding skin and I didn't think bettas did that (I didn't think any fish did that). It starts at their lips and goes up to their heads. I don't know if it was fungus or what I added maroxy to the tank but it dosn't seem to be working. I really need to know whats going on so that I can treat them. Can you post water stats in ammonia,nitite,nitrate, and ph, any fluffy bits on the mouth area, are the fish flicking and rubbing on objects, any laboured breathing.

No they are not rubbing on anything they just stay on the top and the bottom and come up to eat every now and then. I don't understand what you mean by "Can you post water stats in ammonia,nitite,nitrate, and ph,". Yes there are fluffy bits on the mouth area. It's white and it looks like my fish's mouth and body are peeling. Thanks please reply back.

OMG thank you so much. You are helping out alot!!! Can you tell me what it is that my fish have?? Oh and for your last reply yes it does look like their mouth is rotting away. Can they die from this? How long do I have to get this stuff before my fish die or get even sicker? (I don't know if I can get the stuff today). I will go do a water change right after your reply. Thanks so much.\

It's pretty serious and you could lose them, you need the meds fast, columnaris kills a fish fast, read that second link it will tell you what you are up against, can you do a salt bath on the four ill fish.
The desease it called cloumnaris mouth fungus.

Carry on with the moroxy till you get the med, need to use both of these meds maracyn one and two with columnaris.

Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for gram-positive bacterial infections. For infections of columnaris (body fungus), fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, and secondary infections.
Active ingredient: Erythromycin.


Maracyn–Two
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for internal or external gram negative bacterial infections which can even be absorbed through the skin. Effective treatment of fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, dropsy (swollen body, protruding scales), septicemia (bleeding or red streaks on the body), secondary and internal infections. Effective even when fish won't eat.
Active ingredient: Mincycline hydrochlor.

Yes I am based in america. What do I have to use in a salt bath? Can I use cooking salt or table salt?

Wilder was asking about your water stats. She (Wilder I'm so sorry I don't know if you're a he or she because I don't post here very often) wanted to find out if you have any more information on your water quality. Do you have test kits to test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH? These are all things that hugely impact the health of your fish and we all have to monitor them to some extent. If you don't know what these things are you can bring a cup of your water to most fish stores and they will test it for free.

Ammonia and nitrite are extremely toxic to fish (and especially bettas) and build up in the tank stressing the fish and leaving them open to illness. Columnaris is very commonly caused by poor water conditions.

Maybe you can tell us a little about your set up. That will help us to at least guess if there are toxins present.

What is the volume of your tank?

How often do you do water changes?

How much water do you change each time?

What is the temperature of the tank?

How long has the tank been up and running?

I do water changes once every week or two weeks, how often should I do water changes in a ten gallon? I change all of the water each time I do a change, is that bad? The temp is between 78 and 82 most of the time. The tank has been up and running for a couple of months now. What should I do to make sure that this don't happen very often? Is there any thing I should do differently with my water? Thanks so much.

You can just syphon the dirt and add water again if you can do it every other day that's fine or if your lazy like me I do it every week.
