So my goldfish suddenly has this infection type thing on his belly (we think it’s ulcers). I already put some medication in the tank. But decided that it would be best to do salt instead. I can’t put salt in my tank because I have dojo loaches and plecos. Dose any one know more about salt baths? Or any tips on how to get my fish healthy.
I have a 75 gal tank. Nitrate and nitrites are normal. pH is around 8. No ammonia. Other water levels are normal.

Any chance of some better pictures?

Why do you have plecos with goldfish?

How long has the red spot been there for?
How long have you had the fish for?

What did you treat it with?

-------------------
It doesn't look like an ulcer. They normally start out red with a white centre and look like a pimple. Then they open up and you get a red ring with a depression in it.

-------------------
Catfish and loaches can tolerate 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt for every 20 litres of water. You can start with 1 heaped tablespoon per 20 litres and if there's no improvement after a few days, increase it to 2 per 20 litres.

The red spot has been there for about 2 days now. I’ve had the fish for about a year now. The medication that I put in is a medication for bac

I'm wondering if a loach bit it.

Normally with GUD (goldfish ulcer disease), the fish that develop the ulcers are run down and newly imported. Your fish looks to be in pretty good condition and the small red mark doesn't look like an infection. It's almost like a hicky (love bite) that you get at high school. :)

I would monitor it and see how it goes. If you want to add 1 heaped tablespoon of salt per 20 litres of water, that would be fine with the loaches and catfish, and also help to prevent any infections from getting in.
