Hi

My husband bought me a 100 litre Juwel aquarium last year and it was great, but now I am hooked. I need a much bigger tank to house some more loaches and catfish. I am used to the Juwel system and it works really well for me but I would like advice. I am looking at a Juwel corner tank, around 350 litres but would I be better off with a standard shape one.

I am unsure if a corner tank is weaker and do you get more visual distortion?

Is another Juwel tank a good option for newbie or can you suggest another make?

Corner tanks cost a lot more.
As for juwel tank I dont like the internal filters so id rip it out. So I would jsut buy a different tank and have external canister filters.
I have a rena tank and they do various sizes. Im very pleased with it.
not sure on distortion of a corner tank.

I personally dislike Juwel tanks
but for my money I'd go with the rio tanks
whatever size you can fit in your house and budget of course.

Rena tanks are overpriced for what they are but are better than Juwel by a long shot.

if you really want to do something and have the cash then go for a custom bulit job by seabray
that way you can have whatever finish, size etc you like.
then you can go for an external cannister to suit your needs, I'd go Eheim all the way

Most lfs will cost it out for you and place the order with seabray, if you go ahead.

Thanls for the advice - I will get surfing.

I am a bit nervous about external filters, they look a bit sophisticated and techy, so I may well be back for more help.

Best wishes

Could always go down to pets at home they do a 46x12x18 with stand for under 200 smackarooneys (pounds to me and you) then bung in a cople of fluval 4+ 's

there you have it 4ft tank and filter for under 300 squidys!!!!

Personally i find the corner tanks to distort the vision a bit, and arent as easy on the eye...

With regards to the external filter comment, i dont speak from experience of owning one, but from being shown them at the LFS and speaking to others, they seem the way to go, and in fact will make your part of the job a lot easier.!

Squid..

Juwel tanks always get a rough deal on this forum but I have to say, I have a Rio 300 and a Rekord 96 among others and have been very happy with them (Ive had them about a year with no problems atall)

Thanks everyone, I have actually budgetted about £500, I think i may have gone of the idea of a corner tank.

Squid - of course you can make candles out of earwax it is just uncomfortable ramming the string down your ear.

I would go for the Rio 400 which is standard shape and no distortion that bowed glass gives. It is a bit of personal taste, im not too keen on the bows or corner aquariums. Also there is the thing that if you do not go for the biggest possible you might regret it later (like me) lol!

Rena aquariums (the classics) are definatley a better build than most other aquariums on the market, they also have a better height (28"), It really does look better. However they are more expensive ofcourse.

Also look on the trimar website, they can do mail order and sell them a bit cheaper than rrp. Oh if you are in the UK ofcourse :p

But 46x12x18 is just not sexy enough.
