hey everyone!

Just wondering if a 29gl. can hold either:

2 angels

or

2 discus

i really am interested in the discus and i know the requirments on them like becuase they need extra clean water and you know that basic stuff! :p

so i need help! lol

2angels? or 2discus?

thanks sooooooo mcuh!

Do you know the dimensions?

I aint no expert but I'm pretty sure both require a nice tall tank....??

As long as you know that a 29g is pretty minimal for Discus because they like good stable conditions. It is much more difficult to maintain those conditions in a smaller aquarium than a larger one.

If you are prepared for that then perhaps discus. The only other thing as the previous person mentioned is the height. For these fish the deeper the tank the better. Ideal for Discus is around 24" depth. 18" is probably the minimum.

Angels (not Altums) are much less demanding then discus.

Wait, what happened to the barbs? :p

Angels might be fine (29 is what they are bred in...).

Discus, I would say no to. Too many fluctuations, and they are likely to die from 'em.

the LFS just got a new order of discus! :D :p
and they are very small (probably 6 months old...?) i dont know but they are smaller than usual, i was thinking about the 29gl....YAY! lol i am gunna get one!, ummmm the tank that is at the store is rectangular...not really tall or wide...so i guess even? i am not sure though sorry lol

i am thinking if i get them as smaller fish they might adjust better to the tank than a full sized one or two.

i am also thinking about getting some sort of schooler for a dither fish if discus need them, but i am getting them anyways, hehe, i was thinking about 8-12 black neon tetras, they are very cute little fish! :D

so this is what i am thinking:

29gl. (rectangular...?)
2 discus
8-12 black neon tetras
6 assorted cories for cleaning
and a few ottos for cleaning

sound good so far?

thanks!

When older the discus might find a liking towards the tetras and have a nibble on them!!

I would aim for something a litle bigger maybe to keep with them.

If you want to get them, fine. But they will get big, and they are very delicate fish. It's not a good investment, IMO, but it is your money. :dunno:

So I take it the barbs are out of the question?

even if he goes for a breeding pair he needs at least 6 of them so he can get one pair because there is no way of telling males to females in discus. IMO a 29g is far to small these guys get pretty big.

i better add something to the pinned topic about discus.....

angels would be a good choice but the hight of the tank must be 18" or higher, no less

discus like to be kept in groups of 5 or 6 and it is highly recomended you get a 55 gal or more, no less

HTH

yeah, i am thinking about a small group of angels now,

Just wondering for future notice:
How many would i be able to get in a 55gl.?
