The other female I have (the pinky one) doesn't look good. I thought she was recuperating because she was active even though she wasn't eating. So I go over just now and I notice that she's in the same position Dori (the blue one) was when she died, kinda like curved sideways. So I move her and she starts swimming but she can't swim properly, kinda on her side and all wobbly. So I put her under a lamp and you know what I see? Her scales sticking out!! She has dropsy and that's why she hasn't been eating... Right now she's in a vertical position (I have her right in front of me) and in droopy way. I don't know what to do... I don't have any of those meds you can find in the US. I can get medication here by Aquarium Pharamceuticals called Furan 2 Capsules which supposedly treats dropsy but everything is closed now and I don't know if she'll survive till tomorrow. Man.. I feel so helpless :-(

Is dropsy contagious??

Edited to add:
Her scales are sticking out more from the time I started writing this... :-( There really isn't hope for her is there...?

Now she really can't swim. I lowerd her water so she could breath but now she's just swimming all over the place upside down and sideways. This is really painful to watch and I don't even know how to properly euthanize her :-(

i'm so sorry to hear about your girl :-(

sadly to say, it seems that dropsy has really gotten to her :/ i really doub tany meidcation rigth nwo would do much :(

as for properly euthanizing her (which might be the best thing ot do now), the best would be to use clove oil if you can find it...makes hte fish go to sleep and not feel anything :(

Another way of doing it is to cut the head off in one swift cut, but i understand that not many of us would be up for that :(

i dont' know if dropsy is contagaous, but since it's so deadly i would keep an eye on the others and defintiely isolate

There is 2 types of dropsy. One is from internal damage from fighting, or being dropped. It is not contagious. The other is from a bacterial infection, which affects the kidneys. it is contagious. A bredder from Las Vegas uses a treatment of epsom salts. He uses 1 tsp. to a beanie. He leaves the fish in this till it gets well. Do a 100% water change daily, re-applying the epsom salts. Most fish don't recover, but some do. I'v only had dropsy with one fish, and I just culled the betta, in order to prevent my other fish from contracting it. It can wipe out a fishroom if not caught in time.

Two kinds of dropsy? Oh dear I hope I didn't cause this. I put the two females together in a tank when I bought them but when I noticed they started getting all heated with each other I separated them.

I woke up this morning to find her dead :byebye: I noticed something last night though. It would look like she was about to give up and and then I'd move her and she'd start moving again to breathe. Oh well... I think I'll bury her next to Dori in the same potted plant (is it ok to do that?) At least both of them are in fishie heaven
