In the basic betta care FAQ it talks about cups...are they jst plastic cups or something else....

Stupid Question i know but its gotta be asked...

thanks jack

Not stupid at all! I haven't read the section you are talking about, but if it has to do with helping your male betta build a bubble nest then it's probably styrofoam because it tends o float easier. You can also use other resources like a plastic lid or just a chunk of styrofoam.

no thanks for the reply but it says when you are looking to buy a betta you shold choose one with a clean cup... I dont really know what this means

Thanks Jack

most pet stores in the us and other places, keep there bettas in tiny cups until sold, but i have never seen or heard of it in the uk

ohhh, so in the uk u dont have to go through the process of making sure that no cup water goes in your tank? And you can just release them like other fish and let the tank water go into your tank?

Actually some places have started using these "cups" in the UK, but they don't tend to have the in the masses that Wal Mart in the states have.

Basically it is a plastic tank that is teeny tiny that you basically couldn't fit a filter or heater.

and the poor fish has hardly enough room to turn around  hope none of the fish stores near me get them or i'll find them all coming home with me

You don't want the water from the LFS to mix with your tank water, unless you really trust them I suppose.

i was at peter barrats in Newcastle the other day & there male bettas are kept in jars, i asked the bloke why & he said its because they sell so fast!! we get a delivery in on thurs, by sat there all gone!! still looked cruel to me though, other shops float them in all there tanks, thats a better idea i think

They do that in the Stockton one too, that's they only place I have seen them in. Each time I have been in they have been immaculately clean.
