I used basic cotton twine as I only have nylon and fishing line which I would prefer not to use, I have read that peacock and most mosses have no bottom or top but have I put it on too dense?, some place suggest jamming clumps into crevices and gaps yet others suggest very thinly tying it.

I figure the twine will last about 2-3 months before it rots away, surely that will be long enough to attach?

I would opt for sewing thread or fishing line.

I have sewing thread that is nylon and fishingline. I was thinking that the thread would be temporary.

Other than being an eyesore is there a problem with cotton twine?

also, should it be wrapped more close together? right now in the inch+ gaps the moss is kind of sticking out

Yes,,thread would not look so,,,out of place to me. Looks like what you have done with regards to tying the moss in place is about right.Keeping the moss thinly spread as opposed to tying it in clumps will allow light/nutrient's to reach larger surface area.Tying it in clumps too dense,often causes moss underneath to die.

I have been able to find some cotton thread that is black, so I will re-do it tommorow, do you think the main branch is to dense?

There is a big clump behind it, i will tie it to some rocks tomorrow, I originally thought of making a moss wall but I don't think it will receive enough light, value-wise it was probably the best $20 I have spent though . I am going to try planting both hairgrass and chain sword I dont really expect either of them to flourish in such a low tech tank so perhaps I will make a moss carpet down the track
