alritey i have fish already...but nothin seriously tropical! but i want tropical!! wahhhh!!! anyone got any helpful start up tips? they will be greatly appreciated!! :D

for starters, a 20g tank would be good..

u can usually find kits at pet stores.. make sure it has a filter and a heater..

Most all fish we keep are "tropical" so yeah, we need a more refined idea of what you mean by "seriously tropical". Personally, IMO, that's salt water fish... At any rate, we also need to know your tank size, or if you want to get new equipment, what you already have in the tank, etc. With more information, we'll be able to help a lot more!

thanks guys for the help so far! :D rite now i have a 5 gal betta a 25 gal puffer fish tank and a 49 gal livebearer! but i want another tropical tank...nothing "seriously tropical" cause im only 16 and money is limited! so what is there thats colorful...yet not extremely expensive? anyideas?

Heya

how about tetras, or barbs?

If you're looking for something really colourful my advice would be to make a heavily planted tank with a few large shoals of different types of tetras. :)

many barb species are also coloruful but do your research first because some of them can be nippy. :)

Hi amazingbiologirl :)

Do you mean a mixed tropical community tank? If so, if you can put together a tank and the equipment to run it, you will find a wonderful assortment of fish to go in it for not very much money.

To make such a tank, I recommend getting the biggest tank you can afford. Since you already keep fish, I'm pretty sure you know why. ;) Then think about it in terms of the top part, the middle and the bottom. You will want to get fish that inhabit all of them.

Then, think about the different shapes and sizes and colors of fish (small or smallish for a not-too-big tank) that are available. For example, long skinny kuhli loaches, short chunky cory cats, elegant dwarf gouramis. Perhaps you might like a small school of pink glowlight, or cardinal tetras for color and a few glass catfish for something unique. These are all egglaying fish, but if you want to add livebearers, platys are great for color and guppies are active and attention getting little things.

There are so many possibilities that the list of not-to-expensive fish could go on and on. I hope I have given you something to start thinking about and that it will give you at least an idea or two to start planning with. :D
