ok so i was out with a friend and he decided to stop at petco -_- i normaly dont go to the corporate pet stores and had not been to one in a long while so i was a little hesatent to go in but i did anyway! naturally i gravitated twords the fish department :D and was i shocked :hyper: there was a big sign above all the tanks that read " all of our tanks are maintained by (lfs)" all the tanks were clean, no floaters all fish looked healthy and best of all for each fish sold there was a print out of care instructions  :hooray:  now thats the way it should be done ! i wonder if these stores are independantly owned and operated?

Amazing story! Never would have thought that corp. stores like petco or petsmart (stores like that) would actually pay some lfs to come in there and take care of their fish. They must have realised that since they couldn't take care of the fish themselves, they hired the experts to do it. I hope that more stores that can't maintain their aquariums do the same. Having care sheets about each fish is definitely a step in the right direction in educating beginner fishkeepers. Well done!!! :)

Care sheets are standard Petco practice, but aren't exactly authoritative sources... Fish-keeping is full of flexible guidelines, anyone who comes here knows that. The Petco care sheets are of course biased towards selling Petco goods. :dunno: Fact of life, but still a step in the right direction to provide any sort of species specific guidine.

I like the Petco return policy, myself. I recently bought a pair of platies and a female betta. The male platy killed them both! :X Petco not only accepted the return of Franken-plate, but also refunded my money on the other two fish. The prices on some things are a bit steep, but most are reasonable. They've got a hideous pair of kribs in there, but they've got fry. So something is working for them...

I must agree, very few deadies in mine.
