Maybe I have just missed it. I have read that fry will show their colors at about 1-2 weeks, and that they will show their gender a few months after that. What about the different types of mollies (sailfin, lyretail to be exact)? I have managed to save one fry from a silver lyretail mollie and I was wondering if fry are born with the types of fins they are going to show, or do they develop at a later time? I don't know who the father is (could be a standard mollie) because she drop the fry shortly after I got her from my LFS. Any help at all would be great!

Normaly around a month you can tell. But sometimes can takle longer. Also if one of the parents are a lyretail you may have some with them and some without. Not all traits are caried down. And on the odd side if one of the grandparents was a lyertail you may see some lyertails on fry from parents that niether have one.

Thanks for your answer. I have a dalmation lyretail mollie that's due to drop any day now, and I'm wondering what her fry will end up looking like. It's like waiting for Christmas to open your presents!
