So yeah, I've been doing a fishless cycle in two 4l ice cream bins :D that I've been working on for my project.
My mom didn't know, and accidently poured the water out in both to clean it. (brownish algae, and all that)

So, the due date is February 23.

18 days, am I correct? (17, I have to buy another ammonia bottle. :/)
So, is it still possible?

If not, can I fake it, but still leave the information? (I'm clear that, i'll be taking pictures each few days, or taking pictures of the test kit water colours.) Since it leaves algae and cloudy water afterwards, that would work right?

use some starter culture from someone ( BASICALLY AQUARIUM WATER ) from a running tank, make sure to collect the water from the bottom level

aquarium water contains very little beneficial bacteria whatsoever, and will not cycle a tank quicker. its the filter media you need

truckasauras123 is right; water won't have enough bacteria to help. If you could get some of their filter media it would be good.

Well, I really haven't done a fishless cycle using filter media, as in the cartriages?
How would that work? (Sorry for the stupid question :/ everyones trying to learn something here and there.)

WOW

******* I went to find some more pure ammonia bottles, (Ran out, and I got mine from walmart).

Walmart has none. Neither does my lfs. But when I asked the guy, he just laughed and said it was a waste of time to cycle. He told me he didnt have any, but then just to pour water in, add few fishes, and repeat the process..

uh..? This affects my project alot. What's a way I can actually get the message across, but make the project look realistic? Like it was actually done?

:S, sorry inchworm for my language.

anyone mind telling me about using filter media to continue off on a cycle?

Basically, the filter bacteria live in the filter (shocking concept I know, but I'm getting there  ) because that's where they get flow. Flow brings them ammonia and oxygen so they can do their job. Arround 99% of all the tank's bacteria reside in the filter. There are some instances where gravel is your filter, namely when you run an Under Gravel Filter, but most of the time, this media is the sponges/ceramics/floss/e.t.c in your filter :good:

To clone a tank, you take about 1/3 of the filter media from your established tank (no more or it could caurse issues) and add it to the new one's filter. This will alow you to support upto 1/3 of the load of fish in the established tank right away in the new tank, or you can fishless cycle from there if you prefur.

I half agree with the guy at the pet shop. If you have an established tank, you don't cycle, you clone, moving media from tank-to-tank. If you are starting a fresh though, Fishless cycling is the best and safest option :good:

All the best
