I've had this tank (and stand) in my basement for about 3 years. I currently have a ten gallon nano tank. I am thinking of moving everything in it to this tank in my basement.

My problem, though, is that I don't know what this tank is. I don't know how many gallons it holds, that is to say.

The dimensions are:
36" wide
12.5" long
16.5" deep

Now, I don't know how to tell how many gallons that is equal to. Could anyone help me out? I need to know how much sand I need to buy.

In addition, I would also like to know if anyone has any recommendations about how I could (best) switch everything from my 10 gal. nano to the new tank (given that I don't have money for more live rock but could probably by about 60 lbs of live sand). Could I just put new live sand in the tank over regular sand (not live) and then throw in some of the live rock that in my 10 gal to get it cycling? Would this speed it up? Is this advisable?

Don't buy live sand, just buy plain old aragonite :). I would not use the old sand as it's gonna be FULL of detritus. Basically setup the new tank, fill most of the way with appropriate salinity and temperature saltwater. Then transfer over the LR. I'd reccomend having a bucket of saltwater on-hand to shake the detritus off the LR into before you put it in the new tank. Then once the LR is all in the new tank, move over any fish/livestock into it, and your done. No cycle will occur and the livestock will be fine. Remember, the LR is your filter, and by moving it into a new tank you're just increasing the water volume, not increasing the biological volume that the filtration is currently cleaning.
