I need some questions answering please if possible.

1) My Tank is 150cm in length, 65cm in height and 50cm in depth, could anyone tell me roughly how many litres this tank is? it is a large tank.

2) These are the fish that i want in there, please could you tell me if i will be overstocked and if any of the fish would not be compatible.

2 red platys, 6 rasboras, 5 guppys, 2 clownloach, 5 corydoras, 2 plecos, 2 siamese algae eaters, 1 flying fox, 2 neon red dwarf gouramis, 2 east euro rams, 4 lemon tetras, 4 rummynose tetras, 4 glowlight tetras, 4 black neon tetras, 4 neons, 2 purple emperor tetras, 2 sailfin mollies, 2 yo yo loach, 1 axelrodi rainbow, 1 praecox rainbow, 1 red tail banded rainbow, 2 black phantom tetras.

Hopefully i can have all these in my tank.

I would be grateful and appreciate any advice.

hiya and welcome to TFF

Im guessing from the list of possible fish that you want to keep a topical freshwater tank?

to work out your stocking level (how many fish you could have) you firstly need to work out the volume of your tank.

There is a volume calculator on here, but i can never find it!!

Practical fish keeping have a great selection of calculators and convertors to help you out with such things.

Once you've worked out the volume of your tank you have the basic resource needed to work out how many fish you can keep without being overstocked.

The basic rule i was taught (and still follow with no problems) is that for every gallon of volume in the tank you can keep one inch of fish.

For example: in a 20 gallon tank, you can keep a complete total of 20 inches of fish in all. this means that if a type of fish you want to keep reaches 2 inches when it is fully grown you can keep 10 of these fish.

As far as i know this rule applies to tropical freshwater tanks. I know that goldfish and marine tank stocking levels differ for the size of the tank.

As for compatibility theres a great tool on this website, it was the one i was referred to when i started and has not been wrong as far as I am concerned.

Compatibility

some fish are not suitable for newly set up tanks so look into this (eg. tetra's)

SORRY!!, Iknow that's a lot of info, but doing your homework first saves a lot of time, expense and trouble.

Also read the pinned topics at the top of this page.

They really do help with all the basic questions and if you are still not sure of something you can always ask :D

Don't forget to check out about cycling the tank and the basic equipment needed.
Hope this has helped.

WELL JEEZ I FEEL LIKE A IDIOT!! THE WONDERS OF DOUBLE POSTING EH??

heya southyorkshire!!

welcome aboard!!

your tank is roughly 400lts 88Gallons(UK)

the fish you have selected should be ok but i would avoide the siamese algea eaters, when they are small they eat algea but as they mature they get more aggressive and prefer fish to algea and they will quite happily much on your tankmates you have there!!

get some pics up of the tank so we can see how your going and everyone on here will give you handy hints and tips along the way as well as answer questions you will have!!

good luck

Andy
