I noticed some movement by my female Ocellatus's shell, and it was about 3 tiny fry. When I looked today, I saw about 15. It's nearly impossible to count them, because as soon as the mother see's me, she herds them all back into the shell.

The father isn't being much help, he stay's near his shell at the opposite end of the tank. I haven't been able to watch them much, due to my work schedule this past weekend, but this morning I noticed the father shoot over towards them. :sly:

If I see any more aggression tonight, I'll either remove him, or buy a divider. I'd rather not remove the fry.

I'll post fry pics when they get a bit bigger. I'll try to get some pics of the parents late tonight.

Cool ,
the parents can't raise them ?

From what I've been reading, the males don't take much part in raising the brood, but are "supposed" to ignore the fry. Eventually, the mother will evict them from her shell.

My only first hand experience with cichlid fry are numerous krib spawns, so maybe I'm expecting too much. Both the krib parents took turns watching the fry.

The mother is doing a fine job. She was spitting food in the shell at first, but now the fry are venturing further out of the shell, looking for food. If I had to guess, I'd say I see about 25 fry, but it's hard to tell. They are very fast, and they all dart back in the shell if they get spooked.

Ohhhh get some photos i want to see!! :D
Wish i could give you some advice, but i don't have a clue about shell dwellers!!

Kribs are exceptional parents .

You may have to let nature take it's course and see what happens , then if you see that you'll need to separate or not for the next time , you'll be ready .

You must have done something right

Keep up the good work .
