Hello, I am new to the forums. :good: I live in Portland, Oregon. USA. I have a 10 gallon tank. I love German Blue Rams. :D I have 2 now and would like to get 2 Gold ones. I also have 5 cardinal tetras. I am saving up to get a 30 gallon long tank in the first part of next year. I would really like to see my rams breed. I want to be a good aqua-daddy. It has taken me 3 months to finally get my tank cycled. My first tank was from the LFS and i bought it, put it up, in one day and had 30 tetras in it the next day and never had not one die. This time I have gone through 3 Rummynose, 2 Neons, and 2 female Rams. I am wondering if I should just leave the Rams alone for awhile and see if they breed? Also my male Rams looks nothing like the ones in the LFS where I bought him? The ones there had this nice red spot between there eyes and he is not that? Does that mean that I am doing something wrong? I will do anything to make him happy. I would like to thank everyone who reads this. Phillip

Just leave the rams in there with the 5 Cardinals for breeding. If your Rams color is not very good, you may have too high of pH or water hardness. Put in some plants and driftwood if you have not already and that should help the Rams as well as the Tetras feel more at home.

I just recently got back into fishkeeping as well and intend to keep Rams.

A couple of years ago I had a fairly successful run with a pair of Rams and who would oftentimes spawn. I added a peat into my canister filter, knowing that they generally prefer slightly acidic water. The books say that these guys also spawn on flat rocks so you might want to add a few of those - mine used to lay eggs on a piece of slate.

Hope yours do well.
