last night I checked on everyone and all was well. today two of my female vts are missing from the 29 gallon. checked all over the floor, behind the tank, everywhere. I took all the ornaments out and checked inside them, nothing. I took the filters apart and no fish, dead or otherwise in there. I have no inside pets so if they some how managed to jump out, even with the full hood they would have been on the floor.

could perfectly healthy fish have died and been eaten down to nothing in less then 8 hours? and now I need more females in that tank to even out the numbers. Tim will not be happy.

I have corys and 1 small apple snail. I know they would have eaten them, but it was just so fast. when I went to bed they were happy and healthy and less then eight hours later poof...gone.

This happened to me once, three females all died in one night. It was crazy, they were perfectly healthy and then we could not find any of them the next morning. When we finally tore the tank completely apart we found only one, no marks on it at all but when we tried to scoop it with the net it just disintegrated into a poof of brown!!! Yuck!! Weirdest and most disgusting thing ever!! The other two females we never found, we assumed they had done the same thing.

Maybe that happened to you which is why you can't find any bodies.

What sort of substrate do you have? If you have rocks or large-ish substrate, they could be stuck under something or dug themselves and gotten stuck. Or they died and their bodies are hiding under something.
I would take everything out again and stir up the gravel or whatever you have some all throughout the tank.

I have very fine sand, everything just sits on top until I syphon it out. the plants need to grow in as well, so once I took all the ornaments out it was realy easy to see they were gone.
