the 4x2x2 planted discus tank i will be setting up next week will be filtered by an eheim pro2 2028 and and eheim 2217 , i was going to add a hydor koralia to increase turnover for the plants but it turns out it will create too much current for the discus, is there a way to acheive a "happy medium" ?

The 10x turnover is just a guideline, so you can get away with it, but it just makes it that bit harder.

The koralia's do create a good even spread of flow though and if you are planting densley I wouldn't see any problems. People have done it before.

Here are a few examples I have quickly found

wow they are stunning tanks. i think maybe i will get a smaller koralia s an "in between" if the discus dont like it i can allways remove it. yes i do plan on planting quite densely , thanks for the help.

i may hold off on the koralia for now as i have had another idea i will try . at the mo i run an eheim 2212 internal i run alongside the external. the spraybar of the external is set at the surface to provide surface aggitation.

so at 1st i will try keeping the existing external running like this , the 2nd external il have the spraybar lower in the water column to give a little flow in the lower regions , if i need a little extra or get a dead spot i need to get rid of i may run the internal with no media just to provide a gentle current to help spread nutrients around the tank for the plants ,without giving too strong a current for the discus. well thats the theory anyway .altho im sure it will prove to be a case of trial and error, but id rather have to replace plants than discus so i will put all my effort into finding a happy medium whereby i can get enough flow for the plants without upsetting the discus.

yer my turn over was to high took the powerhead out now and added a second filter i am getin 10x turn over but think it is spreed out nicly and the fish look happy.

I seriously doubt the discus will mind the Koralia, even if they do you can just face it away at the side of the tank or something :).
