And I have notice, in almost all of them, none have a rock filter at the bottom of the tank, under the rocks. Is it not really need? I have one in my 55 gallon tank. If its not needed, I may take it out.

Let me know what you all think!

Undergravel filter are considered "old hat" these days.
there are far more efficent internal and external filters available.

However if you are comfortable with UGF's then that is fine too.

you mean Under Gravel Filter(UGF)?
not many people have them because theyre not very good at cleaning as such
i and alotof members use Internal Power Filters and some members used External Filters
Internal:

Internal filters sit inside the tank and stick to the side and shoots air into the water from the tube you see at the top of it and sucks in dirt and waiste from the little slits at the bottom and on the side.

External filters are different, in the picture above the box you see sits outside the tank and the long tube hangs inside and does basicaly the same as a Internal filter

Both filters are great for tanks with sand in(UGFs dont work with sand) and IMO are better then UGFs

HTH

I personally much prefer external filters. However careful I am changing/cleaning media in internal filters, some of the yuk inevitably ends up back in the tank, and you don't get that problem with externals.

just my 2p ;)
