Hello,
First of all, I want to share a little story about getting into this hobby in a country where people are not very well-informed about the essentials and very basic things about this hobby.
I find it very hard to gather any information about the species I wanted or curing a certain disease because it’s hard to make a diagnosis let alone finding the right treatment for the disease. Not to mention that in this hobby it’s not always about the species or the disease but there are many other things like the nitrogen cycle, water chemistry, microorganisms, balanced diet, keeping plants healthy, the right tank size, the right tank mates, that algae eater should be fed properly, and so many other things that are still misunderstood even with the internet and all. Especially in my country those things are rarely talked about and even the experienced fish keepers here are not exposed to that kind of information.
Those knowledge for this hobby is not only an additional knowledge but rather essential things to be understood.
So, personally, what I do as a newcomer I try to do research from the internet which is very helpful but sometimes can be confusing, too. For example, this article says that you can keep a betta with guppies but another article says it would be a nightmare to keep a betta and guppies and for someone without the proper knowledge it could be very frustrating and confusing. Usually, I go to a forum like this and ask around because I think by asking specific questions and getting specific answers it would be easier to understand, then I will write it down in a little book where I put all the things I should learn and know about fish keeping.
I know that there is no such thing as the standard when you try to keep an ecosystem because everyone’s water is different or everyone’s fish are different but it would be very helpful to kind of have the baseline for things.
I like to write things down especially when it should be helpful for me in the future but I don’t have the knowledge like many experienced fish keepers in this forum have based on their own experience that’s very precious for a newbie like me or many others.
What if my love of writing and the knowledge that others have can be written down in a little handbook that could help so many newcomers like me in the future?
Maybe we can work together on making that book and put it in this forum where people can read or download it as a basic guidance when they are starting this hobby. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this or done this before. I’m sorry if someone already has mentioned it before or even doing it before, please do refer me to that because I would love to learn more about this hobby.
I just thought that by doing that we all could help many newcomers in the future because the knowledge you all have, are very unknown to a newbie like me or many others but very useful without a doubt. Imagine how many things that can be shared and things to learn at the same time.
