Fish Crazy
I've already taken some smaller steps to take care of the problem.
Here's my story:
I bought a few tetras two days ago and I assumed that they had been healthy and so when I put them in the tank I never expected them to start showing signs of ich the very next day (*note: I never had any ich problems before I added these tetras). I solated them in another tank and started a salt treatment on them. However I also noticed that some of my guppies, which never had ich before, also contracted ich. So I isolated those as well. Of the healthy tetras I had before I added the infected ones, two of them now show signs of ich. My baby panda cories have not displayed any form of sickness so far.
Here's what I did:
I'm borrowing my sister's 5 gallon and using that as my hospital tank (under the condition I buy her a new one, but I don't want to lose these fish. Besides, a hospital tank would be good for the both of us). I raised the temperature to 86 F degrees and completely blacked out the tank.
In the hospital tank are 6 tetras and a guppy.
As a precaution, I also raised the temperature of my 10 gallon to 86.5 F. However, I haven't blacked out my 10 gallon in fear that it may harm my live plants.
In my 10 gallon are 5 tetras, two cories and my sister's two frogs.
What else can I do to try to rid my 10 gallon of ich? I know that raising the temperature above 85 is a good first step but what addatives can I put in my tank to get rid of the ich, provided that my cories, tetras, some frogs and live plants are in there?
