That this so called lady is in fact a Plakat gentleman

In the past few days this fish has been chasing the others, one of my girls has a slightly tatty tail and is starting to hide a bit, and the agressor has just properly flared and chased one off . I know females do flare but this seemed so male to me.

I've never kept a plakat, and if it is a male he may just have shorter than average fins which is why he's been able to get away with cross dressing for so long. It's the most colourful of the 5 fish as well which is only adding to my suspiscions....

What do you think?

I'm going to borrow a breeding trap from my brother and separate this one out just in case. If the general consensus from any breeders and plakat keepers on here is male, then I have a spare 5 gal I can set up , but my father will need to strengthen the table the two tanks will be on , which means breaking the tank down in order to take the table off, so everyone will have to relocate to the 30 gallon ( with the possible male still in the trap ) until he's done that.

It sounds like and looks like a boy although the pic is a bit blurred, Bronze has a male PK in his siggie called Diesel have a look and see if it looks like him

Definately looks male to me. His colouring is just the same as our Diesel.

He's got the body shape, long ventrils and the long point at the end of his anal fin and of course the flare to finish it all off lol

the pic isnt that good but it looks more male in the way it is posing...check for the extra flap under its gills when it flares.

Yes it did have a bit of a beard actually. ARRRRGGGH! >.< My father is not at all pleased at having to reinforce the table and mother is complaining about " another tank " even though I would simply remove the 3 gallon and replace it with the 5 gallon .

But my brother can't take him as he has no plugspace, and My LFS isn't exactly spectacular for bettas so I don't want to give it to them either as some hideous child would probably buy it and mistreat him.

I shall have to take father's wrath it seems.

Here are more pics. He's in an 11" X 42 X 2 " Trap of the sort many fish stores use to keep male bettas in. It has 3 dividers but I took them all out so he has the whole thing to himself. I also added a small moss ball and some java moss to make it a little more like home.

He is NOT impressed at all. And he's flaring like mad at the others who are all coming up and ogling him, wondering why he's in there probably.

he looks very very male. the ventrils and anal fin looks male, as well as the tank like thickness to the body.

Well one of my girls is also quite chunky which is probably why I didn't notice at first. The anal fin on that one is not so long as his though. I'm seriously going to call him Ar*seface.
