ok i have a female and male pure mickey mouse platys. then the male died ( got sucked up in filter wile i was cleaning r.i.p. ). and soon after... like a day... the female got fat. now its a little over 2 weeks later and she looks like a balloon. lol. im puting her in the breeding trap tomarrow. my question is when she haves the fry and i take here out do i wait a wile before feeding the fry and what do i feed them? i only have flake food and freeze dried blood worms right now. hurry shes about to pop.

Fry need to be fed small amounts frequently. When I was breeding platys I just fed flake food crushed like crazy to a powder. Once they are swimming they should be able to eat, a fish's stomach is about the size of it's eyeball. This should give you some idea of how little needs to be fed.

Don't feed them the first day after being born, I doubt if they would eat it anyway. Then feed baby powder food (or crush the adult flake really small) for a week or two then start them on crushed flake. at 3-4 weeks you can start introducing live & frozen foods & they eat it but don't overfeed & keep tank bottom clean.

The bit about a fish's stomach is about the size of it's eyeball has been discussed in another thread & is said to be incorrect. My platty fry will eat a whole live bloodworm and go back for more & that's when they are 10mm long & the bloodworm twice that. Even at 10mm it's hard to see the size of a plattys eye.
