i have 2 18" f15t8 lights in my eclipse hood so thats only 1wpg as i have 30g high.
and thats not good for my plants, i mean it gets a few hours of direct sunlight but it need abit more light.
so my question is since the they dont make higher lights to fit my elclpse hood can i get a shop light fixure with good bulbs and shine it through the back of the aquarium?

Yes you can, but then you have to think about how your going to house the new fixture and heat. Also it would be easy to block the light if you have dense background plants.

Other members have rigged their eclipse and jewel hoods with a little dyi, im sure theres a topic round here somewhere.

what if i just got 2 of the wierd looking daylight bulbs that fit into like a regular lamp and set them on the sides of the tank

i think they are flouresent they just fit into a regular light socket and are shaped like a regular bulp sort of

They are probably compact fluorescents. These can come in a variety of forms, but two major divisions, those with a built in starter, and those that don't. It sounds like what you have are those with a built in starter, usually a thickened area above the screw/bayonet fitting.

Be aware that the spectrum of typical CF's is wrong for plant growth, typically only around 2700K, they may help a little, but not much. You can get CF's with good spectra, but they tend to cost more and are more difficult to find as they are a specialist product.

Putting lamps behind the tank doesn't sound like a particulaly good idea, but whatever floats your boat.

well i have do do something because i cant get a better light without geting a whole new setup
