B) Ok I know everyone hates wal-marts fish lol i'm one of them but there is this really pretty Red with yellow tail female and also a rainbow female I want really bad. My question is if I get them from there or anywhere should I put them in the tank when I get home or leave it in something else for 3 or 4 days.. and should I use some of my tank water in the bowl I keep the fish in (not really a bowl)????

Ok with the baby fry, everyone keeps saying there babys keep dieing..
What am I doing right to keep all 23 living & getting really big.
I've only got one 10g tank and thats holding all 23 babies 4 males and two big females... the females are not with the males. I've never checked the water I don't have a heater and I only use filterd water (very clean water) Keep the light on for only 8-12 hours and my fish love it no one is stressed out. everyone is happy in my tank. A friend of mine is giving me 4 more females in a few days I'm taking them 4 female and two of my males and giving them to my niece so I'll be left with the babies and 2 females and 2 big males I already have + the two females I want to buy (maybe tomorrow).. I'll give some of the babies away later on when they are bigger or sell them if I can.
I'm trying to get another tank to hold all my fish lol. but thats taking a little longer then I thought it would. I don't want to have too many fish in one tank but I can't help it right now...

The lady that gave me the fish I was over at her house today and looked at her fish I know she has the 5 g tank with way to many fish init.... there are like 10 females and 8 or 9 males and lots of little babies... she also leave the tank light on 24/7 I've tired to tell her she needs to turn that light off for awhile and not to take all the water out of tank to clean it. but I don't think she really understands how stressed her fish are getting but oh well I can only give the Info what she does with it is her right.
Does anyone know how I can talk/tell her what she should do with them but not be mean or I know more then you do (kinda thing) shes my mothers friend and I don't want to hurt feelings??? any information will help
Thanks for any help you can give..

Erin :) :D

Hi Plysha

I'm afraid I'm not the expert on quarantining fish. I think that you're supposed to quarantine them in a fully cycled tank with a filter, heater and airstone for around a fortnight, but maybe someone else can advise better. I tend to just acclimatise them to my water for half an hour or so, gradually adding more and more of the tank water to the bag and then netting them out so that none of the LFS tank water gets in there - but then I haven't got a quarantine tank :(

I just wanted to sympathise with you about your mother's friend. I was at my mother in laws last week and I was just in despair when I saw her tiny fish tank with gold fish in. It can't have been more than 3 gallons and she had 5 goldfish in there, all strugging around trying to avoid bumping into each other, fake plants and the huge sunken ship that was in there. She had the tank for 2 months and hadn't removed any of the crap from the bottom. I told her she needed to buy a gravel vac (£6) but she said it was too expensive and then started complaining how expensive goldfish were because she had to keep replacing the dead ones  What can I say, she's my mother in law!

They've just got onto The Internet so I'm going to point her in the direction of this site and another one and hopefully she'll want to come here and ask why her fish don't seem to last more than a few weeks!

Hiya kitty falol
My mother's friends tank was so bad I couldn't really see the fish from all the algae every side of the tank was green the filter wasn't working and they were so stressed out I didn't know what to do for them. after I got home I thought about it and I could have asked her if she wanted me to clean it for her why I was there.

My mother-In-Law has two hugh gold fish in her kitchen (In England) and Tropical in the living room. when I went over for the first time to see my in laws I wasn't much into fish lol and didn't really know anything about them. But now that I got my guppies I'm crazy over fishies lol they love their fish. Nan (my husbands Nan) killed 4 of his Clown Loaches when he was over here seeing me (IN USA) he was so upset over them my husbands father took them from his room and put them in the living room fish tank guess they are doing fine...
I didn't get to cycle my tank at all I told her to call me a few days before she was bringing them over so I could and didn't tell me till 15 min. before she had come over I didn't have anything ready so I just warmed up the water some and slowly put one at a time in and didn't have a problem, my fish filter though had already had fish in it before but I clean it off a little I think thats why I didn't have any problems with them.... £6 for a gravel vac is not that much .. I paid $10.00 for mine and thats about the same as £6... some people just don't understand things but what can you do about it nothing, have to let them learn their way...
Thanks for the help and I know you love your fish!!!

Take care

Erin
