Riccia looks great when its bushy and pearling. lol

Forgive the quality and colour (crappy camera)

Andy is right it looks beautiful when its all bubbley :)

Mine has started doing this alot more now since I started using a wooden airstone to difuse my c02 rather than he ladder!

Sorry but those pics are when one of my lights has gone out ...

Dusk effect!

Thanks to Andy (Supercoley)

Well im doing nothing special and mine bubbles alot!

All i have is ...

2 WPG of Lighting

1 hour of just one light
8 hours of full lighting
1 more hour of one light

And also jus started using my wooden airstone to diffuse c02 as i said before!

Mine has really started pearling after i changed to that!

Oh and also i think having my lights on timers is something to do with it ...

More regular hours maybe :S

Good Luck though

Richie :)

With Riccia you will find that you need to have position it in direct light with no blockages from othr plants.

The pearling will build up in the latter hours towards the end of your high light period, and will take ages to dissipate.

Hence why so many people take Riccia shots in their dusk lighting (I own up. lol) or sometimes (see Jimboos tanks) in moonlight which looks quite cool.

My dusk/dawn is 2 hours tho cos I like to see the tank for the whole afternoon and night (and the 0.6WPG period is not exactly gonna cause too many algae problems. lol

Often use the override button on the timer so that I can watch the tank through the night if I am up. (like now. lol)

I am now wondering how it will react to the extra 55W I am planning to put in soon for my midday burst (only 2 hours from 5pm-7pm)

Riccia do not need CO2 for pearling / bubbles.

As long as riccia can photosynthesis and most important is:

Yr tank must reach 8.5 Mg/L of dissolved oxygen.

If yr tank less then 8.5, how much CO2 u gave , the riccia won't show bubbles.

how to get more oxygen:

1) higher flowrate
2) air pump ( not recommend , it gave oxygen but not define dissolved oxygen)

with CO2, yr plant grow better.
Pls take note, most plants can see bubbles, just that riccia can hold the bubbles.
ALSO take note, high oxygen = algae problem
Yr choice

I don't know where this info came from! It may be right for all I know (I am no scientist) but this is my understanding.

Plants pearl when they produce excess oxygen.
To do this they need to have all the nutrients they require.

Riccia needs high light
High Light tanks need to have CO2 injected to avoid algae.
Therefore the assumption.

I am with RiCH.

When I used the ladder (not as efficient at diffusing CO2 into the water) I got some pearling but not a huge amount.
When I used the glass ceramic diffusor (highly efficient) I got a lot more pearling
When I switched to pressurised through the same diffusor. The bubbles went mad.

To a non scientist like me this suggests that the CO2 is needed, but of course someone with more scientific knowledge than me can persuade me otherwise, or the water coincidently started to have a higher O content coming from the tap!!!
